This week’s blend covers luxury cars, good days to shop, the consequences of bankruptcy and some other cool tidbits.
Yahoo Finance Blend
Yahoo Finance reports that June was a slow month for retail sales. In a story from the Associated Press, “the Commerce Department reported Friday that retail sales fell by 0.9 percent last month, the biggest drop since August 2005. Demand for autos, furniture and building supplies all plunged.” To combat this bleak news, Yahoo publishes an article by Smartmoney.com which reveals the cheapest days to buy certain items. Books and gas- Thursday; dinner out- Tuesday; cars- Monday… Speaking of cars, it turns out the most affordable luxury car is the Volvo C30, which comes in at a surprisingly low $23,395.
MSN Money Blend
MSN.com has some interesting financial news too. Apparently, a bigger salary won’t make you happier. In an article by Rachel Zupek of careerbuilder.com we find out that those making $100,000 per year are only marginally happier than those earning less than $20,000. A study by psychologists at Princeton and other universities reveals that more money leads to more stress. Those with lots of money do have more stuff, but less time to enjoy it…MSN money staff also published an informative article entitled “Your 5-minute guide to bankruptcy” that covers a few basics one should consider before taking the plunge. Among them are: consider your other options, like debt consolidation, and consider whether you can live with the immediate consequences of bankruptcy.
Bankrate Blend
Bankrate.com created a cool poll which allows you to “compare your attitude and understanding about credit reports and scores with the rest of the nation.”…Margarette Burnette gives us a look into the effect of filing an insurance claim on your monthly rates and ways to work the situation so you don’t end up shelling out a lot more every month.
